This
is a new trekking route open only since 2000. A long but
more interesting approach to Goechela usual route to Goechela
is the steep and short ascent form Yoskum Via Dzongri. Since
this trek begins in Sikkim and leads us along to Sikkim/Nepal
border over Singelela to Darjeeling. Before we begin with
our trek we visit the capital of Sikkim as well as the monastery
at Pemayangtse in West Sikkim. In the heart of Sikkims dairy
country, in Dentam we begin with an easy walk to the third-highest
suspension bridge of Asia and to the village Uttarey. The
steep path from Uttarey to the border checkpoint -pass Chiwabhanjang
leads us through Sikkim's lush subtropical mountain jungles.
A variety of orchids and rare herbs grow here and the region
is home to many colorful birds and wildlife. Up on the ridge
a breathtaking view of Mt. Everest in the West, Kanchenjunga
in the North and the Chola mountain group in the East greets
us. On our trek along the Singelela ridge we sometimes come
across grazing Yaks. The forests of this remote region are
home to variety of wildlife, including leopard cat, wolves,
red pandas and even bears. The decent from Sandakphu to
the picturesque trek begins in Sikkim and ends in Darjeeling.
For the spectacular blooming season March through May are
best for great views October through December are ideal.
